Fire Safety Intervention Advisor – Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the largest non-metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service in England, is seeking two passionate and motivated Fire Safety Intervention Advisors to join our Community Safety Prevention team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to help reduce fire-setting behaviour and arson risk among children and young people, working with some of the most vulnerable members of our communities to create safer futures.

About the role:

As a Fire Safety Intervention Advisor, you will support the delivery of our Fire Safety Intervention (FSI) Programme, working with young people identified as being at risk of fire-setting behaviour. You will deliver tailored fire safety education, manage intervention cases, and work closely with internal teams and external partners to achieve positive outcomes.

You will be part of a dedicated team of Fire Safety Advocates operating across Devon and Somerset, helping to reduce fire risk through education, prevention and early intervention.

Key responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality fire safety intervention sessions to children and young people.
  • Manage and co-ordinate FSI referrals, case records, and safeguarding information.
  • Lead on high-risk and complex intervention cases.
  • Work closely with partners including Police, Youth Justice Services, Schools, Local Authorities, and community organisations.
  • Support quality assurance, programme evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues and external partners on fire-setting and arson-related risks.
  • Contribute to wider community safety initiatives, campaigns, and prevention activities.
  • Support the development and delivery of evidence-based community safety programmes.
About you:
  • Experience working with children and young people, particularly in safeguarding or intervention settings.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and case management processes.
  • Strong communication, organisational and partnership working skills.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload and maintain accurate records.
  • Confidence using IT systems including Microsoft 365 applications.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable individuals and reducing community risk.
