Teacher Salary Assignment (Base Level 1 starting at $43,698 thru Level X $62,758). DOE, recognize up to 12 years experience, 9 month position, Full Benefit Package.

REPORTS TO

Building Principal and Exceptional Services Director.

Under limited supervision, provides educational instruction in assigned area(s) of specialty, grade and program level in compliance with approved academic standards and curriculum for Somerton Elementary School District.

• Serves and provides specialized services to students with disabilities.
• Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the district philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in the adopted course study.
• Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
• Demonstrates a strong grasp of subject matter.
• Uses effective oral and written expression.
• Develops, in accordance with district school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
• Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
• Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
• Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
• Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.

• Knowledge of problem‑solving and conflict resolution techniques and strategies.
• Strong listening skills.
• Ability to work with a variety of individuals possessing a variety of needs.
• Skill in oral and written communications.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Skill in I.E.P. writing and academic assessment administration.
• Knowledge of special education regulations regarding identification and program development for students with disabilities.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting and/or carrying up to 30 pounds. May need to restrain students with behavioral problems, change clothing and diapers, lift and/or transfer students from wheelchairs to special seating. May be exposed to infectious diseases and body fluid‑borne pathogens.

Bachelor’s Degree in area of assignment or specialization. Must possess and maintain Arizona State Department Teacher Certification with endorsement(s) in area(s) of assignment. Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
