Tribal Suicide Network Project Director; TSN PD

Overview

The Native Connections TSN PD will be a full-time position, at 40 hours per week, housed within the Tribal Health Management Department that will have fiscal and operational oversight of the grant. The TSN PD should possess knowledge and expertise in public and mental health, and possess a solid understanding of the cultural and traditional values of the Cocopah community. Personal qualities include the ability to lead, foster relationships, and understand the complex nature of policy development, implementation, and cross-system coordination and collaboration integration.

• NCPD will lead all Network activities within the funded grant and provide guidance, information, and support to all project aspects.
• Will directly oversee all staff under the program and lead the Network to identify ways to work collaboratively across the Cocopah services system, to support grant activities, to sustain successful aspects of the community program at the end of the grant period, and to use lessons from the target community experience to influence policy, funding, and programmatic decisions related to the suicide and substance abuse prevention for youth ages 9 to 24.
• Provide/Coordinate training for community in Youth Mental Health First Aid and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.
• Fiscal and administrative oversight of the grant; ensure compliance with all grant requirements.
• Recruit and engage participants in the Tribal Suicide Network.
• With the Network, support the development and implementation of comprehensive protocols for suicide prevention and postvention.
• Work with relevant stakeholders to coordinate across service systems and facilitate policy reforms and infrastructure improvements and document lessons and successes from the local community to influence policy, funding, and programmatic decisions.
• Submit reports and other materials to SAMHSA to meet required evaluation and reporting criteria of the grant.
• Hire staff, travel to all grantee meetings, and coordinate youth MHF-A training, and become a certified trainer in ASIST.
• Provide training to the community in all protocols, screening, referral processes and coordinate ASIST training to community/schools/primary care/law enforcement.
• Screen youth for suicide, depression, and substance use, and make appropriate referrals.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of grant management and implementation
• Ability to organize, coordinate, and lead diverse people into effective committees
• Ability to monitor and assess efficiency and effectiveness of agency activities
• Identify and resolve problems in program operations and services
• Ability to outreach, host, and engage community in suicide and substance use prevention messaging/trainings/services

• Must be able to pass DPS/FBI fingerprint background check.
• Valid Driver’s License and 39 month Driving Record.

• Bachelor's degree in related field
• 2-year specialized work experience, 4- years in related field, management or director position
