Job Goal
The teacher maintains the safety, care, and wellbeing of students, understanding child and youth development and providing learning opportunities following standards and curriculum. The teacher holds high expectations and seeks each student’s strengths and needs, using differentiated instruction to ensure equitable access to curriculum.
Qualifications
- Appropriate Department of Elementary and Secondary Educator’s license in the field or subject for this position
- DESE SEI endorsement required
- Bilingual educator preferred
Responsibilities
The teacher is responsible for the classroom and/or specific learning environment: planning, preparation, and organization of materials for delivery of the curriculum. The teacher collaborates with other educators and communicates with all adults who share responsibility for student learning, establishes relationships with parents and caregivers, and maintains two‑way communication about student progress.
- Plans units and lessons and delivers instruction aligned to state standards and district curriculum.
- Provides ongoing formative and summative assessments and analyzes assessment data to determine learning needs.
- Adapts curriculum and instruction to meet all students’ varying strengths and needs.
- Establishes and maintains culturally responsive communication with parents, guardians, and caregivers.
- Collaborates with other educators for delivery of specialized instruction and/or social and emotional support.
- Follows guidance from the school principal and other administrators to maintain a safe, welcoming, culturally affirming, and equitable learning environment.
- Participates in professional growth opportunities, reflects on current practices, and incorporates new methodologies into instruction.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor in accordance with the SEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
