Anvil Capture Systems is a Somerville, MA‑based startup commercializing novel carbon removal technology. Anvil’s process is uniquely provable, affordable, scalable, and safe, making the company a highly competitive entrant in the CO₂ removal sector.
Reporting directly to Anvil’s leadership team, the Project Geologist will be responsible for planning and executing geological field programs, managing drilling campaigns, coordinating permitting and stakeholder engagement, and ensuring high‑quality geological data collection to support Anvil’s project development efforts.
This role involves fieldwork and regular travel. Competitive compensation packages will be offered to top‑tier candidates.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and execute RC and core drilling programs.
- Identify rocks and minerals at the outcrop and hand‑sample scale.
- Record detailed drill logs, geological descriptions, and field observations.
- Effectively manage field teams and drilling crews to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Coordinate cataloging, packaging, and shipping of rock samples.
- Travel regularly within the United States and internationally (valid driver’s license and passport required).
- Communicate efficiently and clearly document ideas, methods, and results.
- Work safely and effectively in harsh field conditions, including lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Think ahead, unblock yourself, and proactively bring solutions to the table.
- Manage multiple active projects concurrently.
- Participate in meetings with lawyers, local stakeholders, landowners, and project partners.
- Prepare and submit permit applications and supporting documentation.
- Manage and coordinate environmental and legal consultants.
- Create project plans and budgets, and deliver work on time and on budget.
- Manage relationships with third parties including drilling contractors, mine operators, and other vendors.
- Navigate BLM mining claim processes and permitting procedures.
- Utilize geological mapping and modeling tools including ESRI, QGIS, and Leapfrog.
- Maintain a valid MSHA certification and ensure field compliance with safety requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing drilling programs.
- Strong field geology skills, including rock and mineral identification.
- Experience logging drill core and RC samples in detail.
- Proven ability to manage field crews and contractors.
- Familiarity with permitting, land access, and regulatory processes.
- Experience working with GIS and geological modeling software.
- Ability to work independently in remote and physically demanding environments.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple work streams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license, passport, and MSHA certification.
- Experience working in ultramafic and skarn‑type deposits.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Geological Sciences or a related discipline.
- FAA Part 107 certification and experience with drone‑based mapping.
- Experience working in startup, exploration‑stage, or early project development environments.
