Job SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Unit Operations Manager of MRI, the incumbent establishes, manages, and monitors standards and processes; communicates and trains on systems to ensure department guidelines are adhered to and upheld to the MGH Imaging Department standards. Collaborates with radiologists, departmental leadership, and staff to ensure that protocols, patient care processes, dosing and imaging are performed per protocol.
Ensures safe MRI practices in accordance with departmental standards. The individual must demonstrate problem‑solving skills, organizational skills, and exceptional communication skills. Assists in third‑party accreditation processes such as ACR, Joint Commission, etc.
Meets all responsibilities of an MRI Technologist Tier 1 position, including preparing patients, positioning, setting imaging parameters, performing computer processing and displaying images. Performs scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanner and other related equipment, records QA results, and reports any potential equipment‑related problems to supervisor as necessary. Prepares for and performs intravenous injection of MR contrast agents, including the use of the MR‑compatible power injector.
Understands and can communicate possible contraindications and monitors for and responds to adverse reactions to MR contrast agents. Records all information regarding contrast injections appropriately and inserts IV catheters as needed. Performs point‑of‑care testing as needed, instructs patients and visitors in MR safety procedures, and ensures adherence to safety practices by all persons entering the MRI area. Reviews outpatient schedules to confirm exams have been protocoled and reviewed for potential contraindications, acts as final checkpoint for patient safety and protocol clarification, communicates with radiologist for protocol clarification when necessary, uses designated department protocols, reports issues to the site supervisor or Quality Assurance Manager, assists in the instruction of visitors and medical staff rotating through the area, explains patient procedures, processes, equipment operation, safety practices, etc.,
mentors new staff and fellow technologists as necessary, adheres to MGH “Good‑To‑Go” policies and practices, reviews the MRI patient procedure screening form with the patient and completes the MRI staff specific questions, utilizes departmental specific tools to confirm contrast dosing and patient safety through the use of such tools as MRI safety search engine, electronic dose calculators, image review (PACS) and other means designated by the department, maintains a neat work environment, monitors appropriate inventory and par levels of necessary supplies and communicates with Manager/Supervisor, assists receptionist and other department staff in various duties as necessary (e.g., scheduling and transporting patients, taking stock inventory, filing, etc.),
