Generate is seeking a highly creative and technologically curious Senior Scientist I in Cell‑free Protein Synthesis to join our CFPS group in the prototyping lab. The role focuses on expanding our intrinsically scalable CFPS platform through synthetic biology, ML‑guided optimization, and strain engineering to increase throughput and shorten design‑build‑test‑learn cycles.

Key responsibilities include:

• Integrating CFPS into HTP and Cryo‑EM workflows and combining synthetic biology, structural biology, automation, and machine learning.
• Optimizing and expanding CFPS workflows across modalities.
• Working closely with production scientists to design and implement productionized workflows.
• Generating bold, creative ideas and leading intellectual property and patent writing.
• Planning experiments, interpreting data, summarizing results, and presenting findings with minimal supervision.
• Accelerating discovery, engineering, and characterization of novel biologics in the pipeline programs.
• Mentoring and training scientists throughout the company.

• Bs/Ms with 10+ years or PhD with 4+ years of experience in biophysics, biochemistry, physical chemistry, biological engineering, quantitative/synthetic biology, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in implementing, analyzing, and optimizing Cell‑free Protein Synthesis systems.
• Experience in laboratory automation and high‑throughput experimental design.
• Deep subject‑matter expertise with Cryo‑EM (a plus).
• Experience with data analysis in Python, Matlab, R, or equivalent (a plus).
• Highly motivated, proactive, enthusiastic team player with flexibility and a sense of urgency.

Base salary range: $125,000–$175,000 USD per year (subject to job‑related skills, experience, internal equity, education, and market dynamics). In addition, the position offers an annual bonus, equity compensation, and a competitive benefits package.
