Overview
Receiving general direction from the Security Supervisor, the incumbent ensures a safe and secure environment; provides protective services to people and property; responds to routine and emergency calls for service; and assists with day‑to‑day operations of the department.
Shift AssignmentThe Security Officer must be available to staff 24‑hour shift at the following times:
- Sundays: 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM
- Wednesdays: 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM
- Fridays: 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
• Perform daily operational functions as directed by the Security Supervisor to meet McLean’s operational needs efficiently.
• Respond immediately and appropriately to all emergency requests for assistance, emergency contingencies, or disaster situations, as well as non‑emergency calls assigned by the Supervisor.
• Document all incidents accurately and inform the Dispatcher of actions taken; complete all electronic incident reports in an objective, clear style before departing the shift.
• Use strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to develop and build strong relationships with the hospital community.
• Manage complex, dynamic, and emotionally charged situations to restore order, investigate suspicious or criminal activity, and take appropriate safety and security actions.
• Conduct initial investigations into reports of suspicious activity, persons or hazards; mitigate risk to patients, visitors and staff.
• Employ de‑escalation techniques, reasonable application of physical force when necessary, and provide escorts to patients, visitors and employees.
• Patrol property and grounds, document deficiencies and parking violations, perform access control functions and enforce visitor policies.
• Execute dispatch and console duties, including coordinating security activities, answering calls, assigning responses, maintaining chain of custody, monitoring electronic security and fire systems, and notifying supervisors of system failures.
• Perform all services in accordance with McLean Policy and Procedure Manual, and any additional duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications- Minimum of a high school diploma required.
- A strong educational background (associate’s or bachelor’s degree) in criminal justice or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of security-related experience preferred.
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
- Required certifications (training provided): CPR/AED/First Aid, CPI De‑Escalation Training, IAHSS Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days).
