You will join an 8,500-member strong team that operates with the highest standards of independence, integrity, fairness, and quality service. This role will support a Superior Court Judge in Somerset County Civil Division. The selected individual must have strong typing, technical, and administrative skills and must be well organized and detail-oriented.
SALARYThe salary range is $49,059.79 to $73,196.51 for Schedule A, and $49,059.79 to $69,536.67 for Schedule
B. Newly hired individuals typically start at the minimum of the range; current employees receive a 5% increase upon promotion, not to exceed the maximum of the range.
Applicants may be reassigned to Somerset, Hunterdon, or Warren counties if operational needs require.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Conform Judge's orders and decisions, maintaining workflow in and out of judicial chambers.
- Proofread typed material for accuracy, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
- Perform data entry into mainframe systems.
- Coordinate and communicate the judge's schedule with division administration and case management personnel.
- Prepare and submit local and state reports.
- Manage incoming and outgoing communications, including mail, telephone, case conference calls, and follow-ups.
- Procure supplies, equipment, and inventory for chambers.
- Format and type changes to judicial opinions and other legal documents.
- Compose routine correspondence, such as form letters or standard replies to inquiries, and non-routine correspondence.
- Answer inquiries from the public, judiciary employees, security personnel, judges, attorneys, and others.
- File hard copy and electronic records and maintain a filing system in the Judge’s chambers.
- Perform other duties as required and assigned.
- Three (3) years of office experience performing clerical and support services, including keyboarding, preparing and analyzing legal documents, processing documents, transcribing information, and scheduling meetings.
- Alternatively, successful completion of a clerical training program with at least 700 classroom hours or 30 semester credits in secretarial science may substitute for one (1) year of experience. Coursework must include typing skills, methods, and procedures.
- Applicants must demonstrate typing skills of at least 40 words per minute or possess proof of a required typing proficiency test.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and Microsoft Office is helpful.
- Valid driver's license if vehicle operation is required.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. under Department of Homeland Security regulations.
- Must agree to a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting.
- Within one year of hire, new employees must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey. Exemptions may be requested under hardship or employer critical need.
