Summary of Position

As a Senior Civil Engineering Designer supporting our Energy/EPC business unit, you will lead civil design efforts for energy and ZEV infrastructure projects across North America. You will own the production of site layout, grading, utilities, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and permitting packages for energy and EV infrastructure projects in a design‑build environment. This role is both technical and leadership focused.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of early‑career civil designers.
  • Coordinate closely with Professional Engineers, Project Managers, and construction staff to ensure design packages meet client standards, applicable codes, constructability requirements, and project schedules.
  • Develop and oversee full civil site design packages, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, access, and code‑compliant details for energy and EV infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare grading plans, profiles, sections, and construction details using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Perform or review civil and hydrologic calculations, including stormwater conveyance and detention, utility sizing, and road and parking design, using Hydro

CAD, Hydraflow, ICPR/Storm Wise and similar software.
  • Prepare erosion and sediment control plans, SWPPPs, and stormwater management reports in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Coordinate civil interfaces with electrical equipment (transformers, switch gear, inverters, BESS pads, EV chargers, generators, hydrogen systems, etc.) to ensure safe, constructible layouts in tight sites.
  • Lead day‑to‑day work planning, task assignment, and technical coaching for a small team of civil designers.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings and calculations prepared by junior staff to ensure consistency with company standards and project requirements.
  • Help develop and maintain civil design standards, templates, and best practices for Energy/EPC projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Civil, Electrical, Structural, Geotechnical Engineers, Construction Project Managers, and permitting specialists as part of an integrated EPC team.
  • Support Project Managers with scoping, design schedules, and design milestone delivery.
  • Research AHJ requirements, coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction, and prepare permit‑ready drawing sets for submittal to AHJs and utility companies.
  • Respond to RFIs, submittals, and construction questions; provide constructability input to field teams.
  • Conduct site walks and field investigations to verify existing conditions and assess constraints.
  • Provide civil support to construction and commissioning teams to maintain design intent and capture field changes in as‑built documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) preferred;
Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil Engineering is a plus.
  • Approximate 6–10 years of progressive site/civil design experience, preferably including commercial or infrastructure projects (fueling, convenience, industrial, energy, or EV charging).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design, grading, and plan production.
  • Experience with stormwater/hydrology tools such as Hydro

CAD, Hydraflow, HEC‑RAS, ICPR/Storm Wise or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and mentoring the work of junior designers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
Team

You will be part of a national Energy/EPC civil team that includes Civil Designers, Civil Project Engineers, Professional Engineers, and Project Managers across multiple offices. You will report to a Civil Engineering leader within the Energy/EPC business unit and collaborate closely with local office leadership in Ontario, Somerville, or Tampa.
