The phlebotomist performs phlebotomy under the direction of a department Supervisor or designee and performs venipuncture, heel sticks, finger sticks, and bleeding times according to standard operating procedures and delivers specimens to the appropriate department.

• Perform phlebotomy under the direction of a department Supervisor or designee.
• Perform venipuncture, heel sticks, finger sticks, and bleeding times according to standard operating procedures and deliver specimens to the appropriate department.
• Respond promptly to STAT, timed test requests, and perform routine rounds on time.
• Enter test requests and receive specimens in LIS computer system EPIC.
• Cover Central Processing.
• Greet and register laboratory outpatients, instruct outpatients on correct collection and storage of specimens, and ensure complete and correct documentation for Medicare/Medicaid patients as required by federal law and corporate compliance policies.
• Obtain and verify information prior to processing test orders.
• Provide proper documentation of patient identification and test results.
• Perform quality control as per policy.
• Read, participate in periodic education/training regarding, and comply with RWJBH-Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and other corporate compliance policies.
• Practice Standard Precaution, Hazard and Safety guidelines.
• Participate in Health Fair screenings as needed.
• Assist in orientation and training of new employees and participate in affiliated teaching programs of the hospital as assigned.
• Oversee daily operations of Phlebotomy in the absence of the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• Assist the Phlebotomy Supervisor to oversee the daily operation of the Phlebotomy department.
• Perform staff training on new equipment and/or procedures under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• Maintain continued education on Media Lab.
• Adhere to departmental and Laboratory policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Phlebotomy Certification

• Per Diem

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
