Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Environmental Inquiry (Director), the Program and Outreach Specialist (Specialist) performs varied administrative, analytical and technical duties and provides day‑to‑day administration to the Center for Environmental Inquiry (CEI). Work involves participation in the development, alteration, implementation and evaluation of program policies and procedures. The incumbent independently plans and performs research, compiles data and prepares and presents reports with reliable conclusions and recommendations for action.

Serving as the CEI program administrator, the Specialist contributes to the completion of broad and more complex organizational and program projects and goals, often providing project leadership or representing the unit and programs on key projects within and outside the organization. Contacts involve interaction with all levels inside and outside the university, and may include dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, plus two years of related experience in environmental education program development. Experience with multi‑disciplinary research collaborations; knowledge of academic processes and strategies for outdoor and environmentally focused courses; and working knowledge of ecosystem processes, environmental health and safety policies (including natural hazards), and data curation and management are all highly preferred.

Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required. Knowledge of Google Suite and Peoplesoft is preferred. The incumbent must possess and/or obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver’s License valid for the operation and maintenance of any vehicle or equipment.

Salary And Benefits

This is a full time, non‑exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. The CSU Classification Step Range for this position is $5,274 – $7,684 per month (step 1 – step 20). Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 7 ($5,940 a month).

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
