Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Associate Vice President, Student Affairs, the Career & Academic Success Advisor provides comprehensive career advising to all students and integrated academic and pre-professional advising services to assigned student populations. This includes, but is not limited to, empowering decision-making, goal-setting, career exploration and self-authorship; course registration; academic advising tools and resources; graduation requirements within General Education;
academic standing and academic probation; and university policies, processes, and related forms. This position focuses on a holistic, strengths-based approach to build a sense of belonging and support students' academic success, personal growth, and career preparedness. The incumbent works collaboratively with other Professional Academic Advisors, university staff, faculty, administrators, and coaches to support the educational experience of the students, as well as perform other activities related to student success, career, and academic advising.
Qualifications
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred, but is not required. This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of work experience. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Google Suite required. Knowledge of databases and student information systems. People Soft preferred. EAB Student Success Collaborative preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish highly preferred.
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $5,540 a month. This is a full time, fixed-term, exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
