Faculty Responsibilities
In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in service to the University, profession, and community.
Responsibilities include:
- Advising students and maintaining office hours
- Participation in campus and system‑wide communities
- Collaborating productively with colleagues
- Participating in traditional academic functions
Faculty are also expected to foster the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025 through excellent teaching, advising, and mentoring. During the first two years, instructional assignments will be reduced by two courses per academic year to support research, scholarship or creative activities in pursuit of tenure.
The School
With 50+ years of nursing education, our programs—BSN, post‑licensure BSN, MSN‑Family Nurse Practitioner—are fully accredited by the CCNE and approved by the California State Board of Registered Nursing. We are developing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. Clinical rotations are embedded with community partners, providing service‑learning opportunities.
Faculty develop skills across lecture, clinical, skills, and simulation, in both face‑to‑face and online modalities. Leadership and mentorship opportunities are available throughout the department.
Candidate Focus
The successful candidate will teach in the MSN‑Family Nurse Practitioner program, the undergraduate BSN program, or both. Preferred clinical emphasis is Psychiatric/Mental Health but all areas will be considered. Experience in face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online formats is desired. The candidate will demonstrate competency in learning management systems such as Canvas and in curriculum evaluation.
The applicant must provide evidence of scholarship with a clear research focus and maintain clinical competency commensurate with their academic responsibilities. All required licenses and certifications must be current.
Rank and Salary
Assistant Professor: $95,000 – $103,956
Associate Professor: $108,000 – $113,172
New appointments are not eligible for tenure.

Required Qualifications
• Current, active, unencumbered Registered Nursing License in California or eligibility by hire date
• Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent health‑related field
• Doctorate in Nursing or related field (completion by August 2026) — for graduate program teaching, an NP license, national certification, and clinical recency are required.
• For undergraduate teaching, clinical recency in at least one Bureau of Registered Nursing content area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical currency in Psychiatric/Mental Health
- NP who can teach in both BSN and MSN programs
