Position Overview

Pool for Part‑time Lecturer AY, Nursing – Sonoma State University. Work type:
Instructional Faculty – Temporary Faculty.

The Nursing Department prepares students for RN‑BSN or APRN programs, with curriculum approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the CCNE.

Duties

of the Position
  • Provide effective classroom, clinical, or laboratory instruction using appropriate methods and materials.
  • Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations.
  • Assist and evaluate students, support those with accommodations, evaluate learning outcomes, and maintain regular office hours.
  • Participate in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making.
  • Contribute to development of program policies and procedures.
  • Represent the program and develop clinical partnerships for hospital/community placements.
  • Meet with managers and staff in clinical/community agencies for instruction orientation and coordination.
  • Perform ongoing evaluation of student clinical competencies following course objectives.
  • Ensure that all records are collected and maintained as required by CA BRN, CCNE, and University policies.
  • Participate in course, team, program and departmental meetings and professional development activities collaboratively.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records.
  • Maintain current knowledge in assigned content or practice area.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and ethics.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills and be receptive to feedback.
Professional Qualifications Undergraduate Teaching Requirements

Prelicensure:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (Master's preferred) and one (1) year of full‑time continuous RN experience in the last five (5) years, or one (1) academic year of RN‑level clinical teaching experience.

  • Current, unencumbered RN license issued by CA BRN.
  • Appointment subject to CA BRN approval.
  • Current and valid CPR/BLS certification and required immunizations.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Post‑licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (Master's preferred) and one year of related professional experience.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license issued by CA BRN.
  • Current and valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Graduate‑Level Teaching Requirements – FNP Program
  • Master's or Doctorate in Nursing or related field and national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • At least one year of current, related nurse practitioner experience.
  • Current, unencumbered RN and NP license issued by CA BRN.
  • Current and valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Rank and Salary

Full‑time workload: 15 units per semester. Salary is prorated to the number of units worked and paid monthly. Anticipated hiring salary range: $4,530 – $6,056 per full‑time month. Temporary appointments are made on a semester‑by‑semester basis and are not guaranteed. Relocation expenses and interview expenses are not reimbursed.
