Are you ready for a role where you can provide meaningful patient care and still enjoy life outside of work? We’re looking for a Medical Assistant to join our team! This position offers a consistent schedule with no on-call duties or late-night hours, giving you the balance you deserve to spend time with family, friends, hobbies, and personal interests. It’s the ideal opportunity for someone seeking the stability of full-time work without the stress of private practice or a large hospital system—just the chance to do what you love in a supportive, balanced environment.
Sonoma State University (SSU) is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the Student Health Center (SHC) as we continue to develop and reinforce our culture of excellence. If you are looking for a fulfilling career with outstanding benefits, we encourage you to apply.
About Us
Sonoma State University values diversity, respect, excellence, and integrity. The SHC strives to provide high quality, affirming, and culturally-sensitive/humble care and health education to a diverse student population. The team includes administrators, medical assistants, registered nurses, a health educator, a laboratory scientist, a pharmacist, and medical providers. We are primarily funded by student fees, do not accept insurance, and are able to offer our students low or no-cost services.
We largely treat acute illness and minor injury, perform age- and lifestyle-appropriate screening, and have the time and capacity to provide both individualized and population-based focus on health education and preventive care. We also provide reproductive health care including medication abortion. Join us and be a part of something extraordinary!
The Role
As a Medical Assistant at Sonoma State University’s Student Health Center (SHC), you’ll be a vital member of a close-knit, skilled, and collaborative medical team that values excellence, dependability, empathy, inclusion, teamwork, and overall well-being. Reporting to the Associate Director of the SHC and the Lead Physician, and working under the supervision of licensed clinicians, you will provide both clinical and administrative support that enhances the health and success of our students.
Most of your time will be spent delivering direct patient care while also contributing to front-office functions such as patient reception and scheduling. Beyond clinical care, you’ll have opportunities to engage in quality improvement initiatives and outreach efforts. In this role, you’ll ensure patient-centered, evidence-based, safe, and efficient care in compliance with California Medical Board regulations, CSU policy, and SHC protocols — making a lasting impact on the health and success of SSU students.
Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you must be a certified Medical Assistant in the State of California. Strong interpersonal and communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential. You should be comfortable using computers and electronic health records.
