Position Overview
The Director of Nursing directs, plans, and coordinates service activities of professional nursing and auxiliary nursing personnel. Interprets facility policy and regulations to nursing personnel and ensures personnel compliance. Analyzes and evaluates nursing and related services to improve quality of patient care and better utilize staff time and abilities. Responsible for department budget.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for the 24-hour management of the Nursing Department and assuring that daily tasks are carried out in accordance with facility policy and in compliance with State, Federal and DEA Regulations, and TJC Accreditation Standards.
- Perform an intake assessment including obtaining and reviewing prior medical records and medical/ program-related financial data, documenting a complete medical history, assessing cognitive/ verbal skills and needs and identifying barriers to accessing healthcare.
- Monitor patients frequently for changes in health status after initiation of a new medication, hospitalization or recent decline in function.
- Consult with CEO, CFO, and Medical Director routinely to support organizational mission and vision.
- Interact with patients, families, and clinical teams to promote individualized, person-centered, and recovery-oriented treatment.
- Create and manage the department budget.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all nursing staff.
- Maintain the standards of nursing practices.
- Responsible for Infection Control, conducting risk assessment and documentation as outlined in Policy #4007 Infection Control in Nursing Services.

- Oversight of Waived Testing.
- Speculate about alternatives, manage the innovation process and teams, and bring ideas to market.
- Focus on action and outcomes, initiating action based on incomplete data and driving to finish with honest assessment of results.
- Inspire others by building motivated, high-performing teams and moving the organization to higher performance; understand what motivates individuals.
- Develop and administer budgets with a strong bottom-line mentality, understanding key levers.

Skills and Education- Bachelor's degree in nursing or diploma from a qualified nursing school and equivalent experience; master's degree preferred.
- State Registered Nursing license required.
- 7-9 years nursing experience, minimum of five years supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of health care, mental health, detoxification process, addiction, co-occurring disorders, DSM Criteria and terminology.
- Strong leadership qualities and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; adept at group presentations and leads meetings.
- Hires, directs, and evaluates nursing staff.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and proprietary facility systems.
This job operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level is usually moderate.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; occasionally stands, walks, sits, reaches with hands and arms, climbs or balances, and stoops, kneel, crouch or crawl.
