SummaryThe Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Indiana Corridor (BGCNIC) is seeking a paraprofessional. The role of the paraprofessional in special education is to work under the supervision of a professional service provider to directly or indirectly assist and support in the provision of services to students with disabilities. The role and assignments of a paraprofessional are not defined by a particular student, setting or program but rather by students’ needs as determined by the IEP.
BGCNIC serves 3,000 children ages five to 18 at 25 sites across north central Indiana through summer and before and after‑care programming, with a strong focus on social and emotional learning, college and workforce readiness, and academic enrichment to ensure every child has a chance to meet their potential. The EWB team within BGCNIC is committed to best‑practice prevention and early intervention services to all club members and staff with a focus on assessment and research to drive impact.
Responsibilities- Classroom Support:
Assist the classroom teacher with instructional activities and classroom management. Help prepare instructional materials and resources for lessons. Provide one‑on‑one or small group support to students who need extra help. - Student Assistance:
Assist students with special needs, following individualized education plans (IEPs). - Monitor and support students in various settings, including the classroom, lunchroom, and playground.
- Help students with daily activities, such as eating, using the restroom, and transitioning between activities.
- Clerical Duties:
Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior. Assist with grading assignments and recording grades. Manage and organize classroom supplies and materials. - Behavioral Support:
Implement behavior management strategies as directed by the teacher. Monitor and document student behavior, reporting any issues to the teacher. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment. - Communication:
Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other school staff. Participate in parent‑teacher conferences and meetings as needed. Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some positions may require an associate’s degree or higher.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff.
- Basic knowledge of educational software and technology.
Must be self‑motivated, creative, personable, and detail‑oriented with excellent written and verbal skills. Strong emphasis on solution‑based thinking, positivity, and ability to execute. Team player who is ethical, transparent in communication, and treats colleagues, club members, and their families with the highest level of respect. Must be able to pass any and all required background screens and drug screens at any time.
