Position Overview

MTI seeks highly skilled Controls Engineers to design, document, integrate, and maintain electrical and software systems for custom‑built friction welding machines and robotic automation. The role involves developing schematics, programming logic, and hardware documentation, while advocating MTI’s controls standards and providing technical support to customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Controls, Applications, Fluid System, and Mechanical Engineers to deliver machine control solutions.
  • Create electrical schematics (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, ePLAN) and Bills of Material.
  • Interpret controls requirements from project scope documents.
  • Implement ANSI and ISO machine design and safety standards.
  • Develop machine sequence and control flow charts.
  • Program Human Machine Interface (HMI) using Siemens and Allen‑Bradley platforms.
  • Produce design documentation (theory of operation, help files, set‑up instructions, technical specifications).
  • Provide technical support to Service Technicians and customers.
  • Contribute to the design, architecture, and programming conventions of controls and software applications.
  • Advocate, maintain, and train staff on MTI controls standards, verification, and validation methods.
  • Grow expertise in PLCs, HMIs, and control software.

  • Proficiency in creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control station layouts, and Bills of Material.
  • Hands‑on experience with HMIs.
  • Machine debugging and commissioning experience.
  • Strong documentation practices.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. permanently.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Adherence to highest professional and ethical standards.
Preferred Skills or Competencies
  • PLC/Motion Control Programming on TIA Portal, Step 7.
  • HMI Design on Factory Talk View, Studio 5000 View Designer, Factory Talk Optix, WinCC.
  • Electrical schematic and panel design using AutoCAD Electrical or ePLAN.
  • Structured Text and Function Block Programming.
  • Experience with automation integration, robots, vision systems, barcode scanners, and safety systems (Guard Logix, PROFISafe, PILZ).
  • CE compliance (European safety standard).
