Job SummaryProvides direct support to surgical teams by assisting in sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment management, acting as scrub technician and circulator, foreseeing surgeon needs, maintaining aseptic field, and performing emergency interventions as directed.

- Assist in surgical intervention care under supervision of professional nursing staff.
- Act as primary scrub person handling instruments, supplies, equipment during procedure.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure quality patient care.
- Maintain sterile field, correct technique breaks, and perform skin preps.
- Assist in emergency situations: perform CPR, monitor sterility, call for help.
- Read preparatory literature for unusual cases, maintain certification, attend committees, review reports, serve as a resource for staff.
- Scrub in, set up instrumentation before patient entry, ensure all items listed on preference card are present.
- Check case carts, sort items, update preference cards, open surgery room, anticipate instrumentation needs, clean up and turnover room.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and comfort; avoid exposure, report faulty equipment, assist in patient positioning, and maintain safe environment.
- Follow Surgery Department policies, report issues to charge nurse, channel complaints appropriately.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Attend and participate in department meetings, share information.
- Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, health requirements within established time frames.
- Maintain license/certification, registration in good standing.
- Maintain current BCLS (CPR) and necessary certifications.
- Use universal precautions, protective equipment, ergonomic techniques.
- Adhere to regulatory, survey, compliance requirements.
- Work overtime, additional shifts as required.

Successful completion of a surgical technology program or Armed Forces training and subsequent certification and maintenance as a surgical technologist.
Knowledge & Skills- Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology.
- Sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.
- Maintenance and care of supplies and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Intraoperative activation of power equipment under surgeon supervision (drilling, reaming).
- Operation of electrosurgery unit and bowel staplers under surgeon supervision.
- Operation of skin stapler under physician or surgeon guidance.
- Handling and care of specimens.
- Safety, departmental and hospital policies, emergency disaster procedures.
- Operational preparation of operating rooms, surgical scrubs, draping, and aseptic maintenance.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships.
- Patient care/operating room environment with physical exertion, changing demands, exposure to biohazards and anesthetic gases.
- Must commit to a weekend alternative schedule.
Walk/stand for prolonged periods, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 lb, lift patients up to 35 lb unassisted, provide CPR, meet stamina requirements necessary for essential functions.
