Position Summary

The Staff Development / Infection Control Nurse is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing staff education and training while leading the facility’s infection prevention and control program. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, promotes quality resident care, and supports a culture of safety, education, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Staff Development / Education

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver orientation programs for all new hires
  • Develop, implement, and track ongoing in-service education and annual competencies
  • Maintain accurate education and competency records in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Assess staff learning needs and provide targeted training to address performance gaps
  • Support clinical skill development and evidence-based practice
  • Assist leadership with corrective education plans as needed

Infection Prevention & Control

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program
  • Monitor, track, and report infections per CDC, CMS, and state guidelines
  • Conduct infection surveillance and analyze trends to reduce infection risks
  • Ensure compliance with hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, and cleaning protocols
  • Educate staff, residents, and families on infection prevention practices
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to manage outbreaks and exposure events
  • Maintain accurate infection control logs and reports
Regulatory & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with CMS, CDC, OSHA, and state regulations
  • Participate in QAPI activities and surveys
  • Assist with policy and procedure development related to education and infection control
  • Serve as a resource during state and federal surveys
Qualifications
  • Current, active RN license (required)
  • Experience in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care preferred
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and regulatory requirements
  • Strong teaching, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to educate and motivate staff across all departments
  • Proficiency in documentation and data tracking
