Job Description

As a YWCA North Central Indiana Crisis Support Staff, you will help women and children in our community who are striving for better lives. You will provide support services and activities to assist clients in moving from crisis to stability, ensuring a harmonious living atmosphere while working flexible hours for 2nd jobs or students.

Essential Duties
  • Answer incoming crisis calls.
  • Conduct intake for domestic violence clients.
  • Accurately enter data on crisis calls, intakes, lethality screens, abuser logs, and room lists.
  • Process intake of new clients and clients exiting the program.
  • Monitor and respond to activity at entry doors.
  • Provide information and referral to telephone callers and residents.
  • Communicate client matters to appropriate staff.
  • Watch security cameras.
  • Provide initial orientation to women entering the program and review policies and rules as backup to Crisis Desk Specialists.
  • Pack rooms for clients who have left personal belongings, ensuring proper inventory, storage, and labeling.
  • Do laundry as needed.
  • Monitor client laundry, ironing, and room cleaning activities.
  • Track assigned chores and ensure completion.
  • Maintain linen closet and pantry orderly.
  • Cross‑train with Crisis Desk Specialists for front‑desk backup.
  • Circulate on first and second floors, interact with clients, and report issues to case managers when appropriate.
  • Resolve client problems when necessary.
  • Inform supervisor when toiletries inventory is low.
  • Enter information in log books at the front desk and in the Crisis Floor Specialist’s office.
  • Provide necessary tracking for CAC Food Program grant activities and comply with reporting forms.
  • Set up breakfast items in the cafeteria, serve food and milk to children, and record participation.
  • Supervise all meal and snack activities in the cafeteria.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Call on‑call supervisor with necessary guidance and schedule changes.
Knowledge and Ability
  • Ability to work well with people and make decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
  • Ability to assess client needs and well‑being.
  • Knowledge of women's issues.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED required. Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with women and children in a social service setting desirable.
Physical/Mental Essential Requirements
  • Climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, moderate lifting up to twenty lbs.
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination.
  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle environmental conditions inside and outside.
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with clients, staff, and volunteers.
