This cost accountant position may include: pricing products or services, monthly billings, monthly reconciliations and allocations of financial accounts related to direct and indirect costs, intercompany reports, analysis and trending calculations, problem solving, researching and explaining variances, presentations and recommendations of financial data to upper management and executives, assists with budgets and audits. Requires intermediate to expert level of Excel experience, attention to detail and strong analytical ability to interpret financial data and provide.

• Location:
  
  One full‑time position (40‑hrs/week), 8‑hour shift Monday‑Friday, 8:30am‑5:30pm on‑site at 2401 Faraway Dr., Columbia, SC, in an office environment.

• Prepare daily and/or monthly account reconciliations of a complex nature; ensure compliance with contract/business regulations, GAAP, FAR, cost accounting standards and departmental policies; maintain the General Ledger, process journal entries and generate financial reports.
• Review, analyze, and verify complex accounting/systems transactions; identify, resolve and document variances; provide accounting information to operational areas to resolve problems; support month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Complete assigned reports on schedule; produce management reports on cost behavior, trends, variances, and other pertinent information; reconcile G.L. accounts and process adjusting entries; support related reconciliation activities in other accounting areas.
• Maintain current work instructions for all activities; review departmental policies, procedures and forms; suggest updates or prepare preliminary drafts of policy improvements.
• Assist supervisor with special projects; interface with internal and external audit agencies; provide guidance and training to other accountants; consult on complex accounting principles.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 24 semester hours in accounting (pre‑2008 hires: 21 semester hours).
• Experience:
  
  5 years of accounting experience.
• Skills & Abilities:
  Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts and practices; excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills; ability to work independently.
• Software:
  Microsoft Office; ability to use data retrieval applications.

• Intermediate to expert level Microsoft Excel skills.
• Power BI experience is a plus.
