Position Purpose

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine to moderately complex clerical/accounting functions such as inventory balancing, reconciliations, generating refund request letters, processing disbursements and deposits, keying journal entries and logging items in accordance with standard procedures in one or more of the following areas; general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable or related financial area. May complete special projects.

This is a full‑time position working (40‑hours/week) Monday‑Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm (Flexible start times from 7:30am - 9:30am), working on‑site at 17 Technology Circle, Columbia SC, in an office environment.

SCA Benefit Requirements

Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina and its subsidiary companies have contracts with the federal government subject to the Service Contract Act (SCA). As a Service Contract Act employee, you are required to enroll in our health insurance, even if you already have other health insurance. Until your enrollment is complete, you will receive supplemental pay for health coverage. Your coverage begins on the first day of the month following 28 days of full‑time employment.

What

You’ll Do
  • Prepare various financial data associated with refunds, invoices, recoupments, adjustments, cash disbursements, deposits, check voids and reissues, disputes, correspondence, or other data in support of the finance or accounting function, ensuring data is complete, accurate, and organized for processing. Provide supervisor with daily, weekly, and/or monthly summary reports of accounting activities.
  • Complete moderately difficult research using financial reporting systems, files, and other means to identify errors such as over payments or misapplication of funds. Resolve routine questions and problems, referring complex issues to higher levels.
  • Perform calculations on financial documents to ensure accuracy of bank deposits, receipts, disbursements, refunds, or other accounting‑related items.
  • Provide other support duties related to the accounting/finance function that may include monitoring financial systems, keying journal entries, tracking funds, balancing accounts, maintaining inventory and receiving cash funds from customers, etc. May assist less experienced accounting clerks as needed.
  • Determine, prepare, and distribute correspondence regarding monies due or erroneously received. Issue refunds as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Required

    Education:

    Associate's in a job‑related field
  • Degree Equivalency: 2 years job‑related work experience
  • Required Software and Tools: Microsoft Office
  • Required

    Skills and Abilities:

    Good oral and written communication and customer service skills; excellent organization skills and attention to detail; strong business math skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Any experience in banking, reconciliation, and bookkeeping would be beneficial.
