Provide front-line supervision of pipe fitting and welding related tasks and processes to WB Welders, Fitters, and Apprentice level Help.
Essential Duties- Perform safely, productively and with a focus on quality all duties of a Fitter/Welder as necessary.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in construction of WB contract items.
- Examine/interpret pipe drawings, floor plans and PIDs to determine dimensions, specifications, or discover any errors in design of project.
- Develop, implement and monitor pre‑task safety planning on assigned job sites under the guidance and supervision of the superintendent.
- Oversee and ensure correct “lay out” of WB construction work using framing square, tape measure or other mechanical/electronic measuring devices.
- Assist the superintendent in selecting and organizing materials to be used on assigned projects.
- Assist the superintendent in planning the sequence of activities needed to complete assigned projects.
- Assign welders, fitters, and laborers tasks necessary to complete assigned projects.
- Operate equipment safely when necessary to convey building materials and prepare locations for construction processes.
- Calculate pipe and fitting quantities and schedule delivery in a timely manner.
- Supervise piping installations and basic welding activities as necessary and appropriate.
- Examine and adjust delivered piping as necessary to meet project specifications prior to installation.
- Use the PDSA approach to make necessary adjustments and complete the assigned project at the highest level of safety, quality, production and innovation.
- Communicate project status and needs to superintendent and/or project managers (e.g., staffing, materials, equipment).
- Troubleshoot and handle any problems that may arise during WB construction activities.
- Assist the superintendent and project manager with coordinating construction activities to assure timely, high‑quality completion.
- Comply with all pertinent WB, state, and OSHA safety rules, regulations, guidelines and policies.
- Report any job‑site or WB employee related safety violation(s) to superintendent and safety department.
- Assist superintendent with personnel and work evaluation processes.
- Complete appropriate paperwork on incidents (equipment accidents, safety violations, repairs, usage reports, tag‑out, personnel matters) as requested by superintendent and safety department.
- Meet and walk with engineers, construction managers or special inspection personnel.
- Coordinate construction activities with other trades and subcontractors at the field level.
- Assist and coordinate deliveries of materials and equipment with the superintendent as needed; oversee loading and unloading to stage items properly.
- Coordinate safely the loading and unloading of delivered equipment and materials and maintain an on‑site inventory count for items delivered and returned.
- Participate in company‑sponsored craft and safety training activities.
- Serve as a safe and productive team member of a construction crew.
- Perform all assigned roles, responsibilities and related work processes/tasks in the safest possible manner; maintain a safe, accident/incident‑free environment for all co‑workers, customers, suppliers and others at all times.
- High School Diploma/GED/APprenticeship – preferred
- Vocational or technical training in construction – desirable
