Open Rank - Clinical Assistant/Associate/Professor of Physiology

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (USC SOMG) is seeking applications for faculty with discipline‑specific expertise in physiology and pathophysiology to contribute to our interdisciplinary teaching team. The position is open at the clinical assistant professor, associate professor, or professor level depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Summary – 50% teaching, 30% research, 20% service.

Job Duties
  • Teaching (50%) – Serve as content expert in developing specific module content in physiology; deliver content using a variety of teaching modalities; facilitate educational materials and assessments; collaborate with module directors; review curriculum feedback.
  • Research (30%) – Develop and conduct scholarly activities, including educational, comparative effectiveness, translational; submit findings for publication; pursue extramural funding.
  • Service (20%) – Represent USC SOMG on professional committees; provide educational support; serve on medical school committees; other duties as assigned.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in physiology or related discipline.
  • Broad teaching experience in endocrine, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, reproductive or exercise physiology.
  • Experience in learner‑centered environments and innovative teaching methods (Team‑Based Learning, problem‑based learning, case‑based learning).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate topics to clinically relevant applications for medical students.
  • Proven record of scholarship in foundational sciences, translational research, curriculum, medical education research, or collaborative research.
  • Clinical Professor rank requires at least nine years of effective experience;
    Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Assistant Professor require strong potential for development as an educator.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating integrated foundational science courses at an LCME‑accredited medical school.
  • Recognition of expertise in lifestyle medicine, endocrine, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, reproductive physiology.
  • Record of scholarship in implementation science, population health, patient‑centered outcomes research.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Engaging oral and written communication; inclusive interpersonal skills; collaborative, team‑oriented.
