Open Rank Faculty Position in Environmental Epidemiology
Full‑time, open‑rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) faculty position in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina. This recruitment is part of a campus‑wide cluster hire aimed at expanding leadership in environmental health research and education.
Department and Institutional OverviewThe University of South Carolina system—comprising eight institutions and 20 locations—serves over 50,000 students and emphasizes community health through research, education, and service. The Arnold School of Public Health, founded in 1975, ranks among the leading public‑health schools in the U.S. The School’s Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department houses 35 full‑time faculty and serves 112 graduate students, providing a collaborative environment for interdisciplinary public‑health scholarship.
PositionFocus and Responsibilities
- Maintain an active research program in environmental epidemiology, leveraging expertise across chemical, physical, behavioral, biological, and social environmental stressors.
- Engage with cross‑disciplinary research teams on environmental‑health challenges, designing, testing, and scaling programmatic and policy interventions.
- Mentor graduate students and supervise their research projects.
- Teach graduate‑level courses in environmental epidemiology.
Education and Experience
All applicants must hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology or a related field by their start date.
- Assistant Professor (tenure‑track): Demonstrated excellence in research and potential to secure external funding, teach graduate courses, and collaborate with public‑health and biomedical researchers.
- Associate or Full Professor (tenure‑eligible): Established record of top‑tier publications and competitive grants, proven graduate‑student supervision, and leadership in curriculum development, junior‑faculty mentoring, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
