The faculty of Philosophy at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9‑month, full‑time, tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2026. The role is grounded in philosophical issues in artificial intelligence and is anchored in core philosophical debates. Candidates may engage in fields such as philosophy of science, epistemology, bioethics, political philosophy, environmental philosophy, philosophy of technology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of law.

• Teach a 2/2 course load and perform the usual service duties required of faculty.
• Participate in departmental service activities, including committee work, student mentorship, and outreach initiatives.
• Leverage internal grant opportunities and mentoring programs for junior faculty to support research and teaching development.

• Required: PhD in Philosophy by start date, a history or potential to publish in Philosophy journals and present research at top‑tier venues, a three‑year strategy to develop a research program in philosophy and AI, and a proven commitment to teaching excellence evidenced by student and colleague feedback.
• Preferred: Prior experience in artificial intelligence or related philosophical fields, strong interdisciplinary engagement, evidence of outreach to relevant experts and stakeholders.

• Cover letter describing research and teaching interests.
• Curriculum vitae.

• One‑page sketch of research agenda or a three‑year strategy to develop that agenda.
• Writing sample not exceeding 5,000 words.
• Evidenced teaching excellence (e.g., a one‑page teaching statement and a teaching portfolio).
