Location: Columbia

Position Summary

The University of South Carolina, Beaufort College, is recruiting two part‑time Adjunct Research and Instruction Librarians to serve on the Bluffton Library team. The positions are scheduled for evenings (4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.) Monday‑Thursday and Sundays, requiring 10 hours per week.

Responsibility Overview
  • Provide one‑on‑one, group, and in‑class instruction in research and library use during evenings and weekends.
  • Staff the research desk, monitor text chat, and manage the library’s mail accounts (
    researchhelp
    , uscblibrary
    ).
  • Assist with access services, covering the access services desk when needed, closing the library, and helping with PASCAL Deliver services.
  • Support inter‑library loan requests and collection maintenance or weeding projects.
  • Manage students working in the library and within the Makerspace, including project assistance and work completion monitoring.
  • Offer library tours and participate in library events during assigned hours.
  • Create library‑specific educational materials: handouts, guides, brochures, marketing materials, tutorials, and Lib Guide content.
  • Maintain and update existing subject and course Lib Guides, and develop new Lib Guides as needed.
  • Expand and manage Lib Answers content.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library Science or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Library Science.
  • Experience providing research and instruction in an academic library setting.
  • Preferred:
    Experience overseeing student workers and library support staff.
  • Preferred:
    Knowledge or experience with a Makerspace.
  • Preferred:
    Previous access services work experience.
  • Preferred:
    Experience with inter‑library loan.
