Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
- Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
- Evaluate student progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observation.
- Monitor student progress in and outside the special education room.
- Maintain the physical environment of the classroom.
- Maintain contact with parents of students.
- Determine student goals, objectives, and directives based on evaluations.
- Prepare report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.
Supervises students.

Education and/or ExperienceBachelor's degree in education.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsTeaching certificate with Learning Disabilities or Multicategorical special education endorsement.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply ratios, percentages, fractions to practical situations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret extensive technical instructions.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; plan and implement lessons based on objectives and student needs. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community. Communicate clearly in written and oral forms.
Physical DemandsFrequent walking, standing, bending, twisting. Sometimes lift up to and exceeding 25 lb, including students, wheelchairs, equipment.
Work EnvironmentNoisy environment, moderate to loud. Interaction with public and staff. Direct responsibility for safety and well-being of students.
