We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job SummaryDominion Energy South Carolina’s (“DESC”) Economic Resources Commitment (“ERC”) Department within DESC Resources Planning has an opening for a mid level or senior level technical professional working in the Cayce, SC campus. The ERC Department provides real time electric dispatch guidance, operating cost data, fuel management, and unit commitment planning for Power Generation, Power Marketing, Electric System Control, and Fuel Procurement with an emphasis on inter‑departmental coordination through electronic and inter‑personal communications.
This position is a critical part of the planning team responsibilities for the cost‑effective dispatch of DESC’s generation facilities. Candidates must have a working knowledge of the FERC Standards of Conduct and Dominion Energy Code of Conduct (COC) as the communications requirements of this job include daily contact with internal personnel of many COC classifications.
The primary responsibility of this position is to develop and publish a daily unit commitment plan that balance self‑generated and purchased energy to serve DESC retail load and wholesale obligations based on engineering parameters, cost factors, and system needs. The successful candidate will forecast electric load, coordinate generating plant maintenance schedules, operate a complex optimization model. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for the seamless and timely flow of data into this planning team and sending plans out to Electric and Gas Transmission, Power Marketing, Natural Gas Procurement and Electric Power Generation.
These functional skills should combine with technical judgment, business acumen, and personal responsibility to make the critical decisions needed to maintain the cost‑effective and reliable operation of DESC resources operating within the Bulk Electric System. Decision‑making is a critical skill in this position that directly and immediately impacts customers’ costs and influences system reliability. A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required.
The successful candidate will work together with the ERC team of system planners to organize a variety of complicated input data, manage plant fuel supply, forecast load, optimize system resources, allocate off‑system sales cost, and coordinate closely with other DESC departments. ERC planning is a 24/7 responsibility, working at least one scheduled weekend a month and some holidays, as well as unplanned after‑hours work as needed.
Since many tasks involve information from gas and electric markets, and marketing or transmission affiliates, this position will become knowledgeable of and adhere to federal and state rules and regulations governing electric and gas utilities. The successful candidate will also support other activities within the ERC Department, as needed.
Trader Level II: 5+ years experience.
Trader Level III: 7+ years experience in the energy sector, with related experience in unit commitment analysis, generation dispatch, real‑time or forward trading, transmission systems operation, and/or the management of generation assets required.
