The QE Lab Test Technician and Fiber Splicer will setup and perform testing on fiber optic cables, accessories, and connectivity/apparatus products. The testing will include mechanical, environmental, and optical performance testing to industry standards.

• Setup testing in accordance with industry standards
• Perform testing in accordance with established test procedures
• Record test results in test documentation and perform additional data analysis where required
• Report results and any observations to co-workers, managers, and engineering as required
• Work on multiple product lines and have flexibility in work schedule and test diversity
• Participate on continuous improvements teams to achieve the highest level of test efficiency
• Interact with and support the engineering staff as required
• Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL

• Previous work background in fiber optics is ideal, along with any type of technical background
• Fiber optic testing experience is preferred
• Fiber splicing experience is preferred
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

• Manufacturing floor
• This position requires good manual dexterity, good vision and the ability to stay seated for long periods of time

• Test & Inspection
  • In lieu of certifications, must have 1 year of work experience in a technical manufacturing environment, preferred
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, datasheets and written work instruction
  • Obtain at least 2 QE Lab certifications (options include environmental testing, mechanical testing – OCA, mechanical testing – Cable, optical testing – cable, optical testing – OCA, WDM testing, and materials testing)
  • Complete FO123 basic fiber optic training course
