Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparation of basic bridge plans and roadway structure plans utilizing CADD.
  • Assist with the structural design and analysis of basic highway structural systems and components using applicable methods that conform to the latest AASHTO, FHWA, and SCDOT specifications and policies.
  • Design and analyze components such as slabs, beams, bearings, bents, piers, walls, culverts, miscellaneous roadway structures, non‑standard pipes and other superstructure and substructure components.
  • Use structural engineering software to support the design of various bridge and highway structure components.
  • Assist with the computation of structure geometry and quantities involved in plan preparation.
  • Review structural plans prepared by others to verify they meet SCDOT standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • One (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience, or an approved equivalent, with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions include sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods. The position may require occasional travel, and may involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to moving traffic, and working in natural environmental hazards. Work outside normal business hours or in emergency situations may be required.
