Fire Protection Specialist

Summary:

This position supports the implementation, inspection, and maintenance of fire protection systems within an electric vehicle (EV) automotive manufacturing facility. This position will foster a culture of fire prevention awareness, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and implement policies, procedures, standards and technology to support both the Security and Fire Protection Department and Production operations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Inspections & Compliance:

During construction:
Perform daily fire prevention and compliance inspections, ensuring fire alarm, sprinkler, smoke, and heat detection systems are installed, tested, and commissioned per building drawings.

During factory operations:
Conduct daily fire prevention inspections to detect hazards.

Training & Awareness:
Deliver training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors on fire protection procedures as well as assist in the coordination of emergency drills/exercise and generated after-action reports.

Incident Response:
Investigate fire incidents, accidents, and breaches of fire prevention rules, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and corrective measures.

Coordination:
Coordinate with local fire protection contractors, fire departments, and emergency responders

Attend in-service training classes to maintain current knowledge of codes, laws, ordinances, and regulations; participate in professional group meetings to stay abreast of new trends and innovations in fields relevant to assigned responsibilities

Recommend possible fire code revisions, additions, and deletions to proper authorities

Study and interpret fire safety codes to establish procedures for issuing permits regulating storage or use of hazardous or flammable substances

Assists in the development, recommendation and administering of policies and procedures pursuant to the goals/objectives of the Department.

Participates in departmental training programs.

May serve as North Star EMS’ liaison with clients.

Will stay up-dated on latest Fire Department/EMS standards and trends and evaluate possible implementation.

Meets the North Star EMS job descriptions requirements for Industrial Firefighter and/or Industrial Firefighter/Paramedic (as required), Industrial Fire Lieutenant and Industrial Fire Captain.

Must be able to drive all assigned vehicles per North Star’s driving policies.

Will adhere to North Star’s and Department specific Standard Operating Procedures.

Performs other duties as required by superiors.

Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age.

High school diploma or GED.Current driver license.

Current CPR / AED for Health Care Provider or BLS certification.

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Fire Inspector I (NFPA or ICC equivalent)
Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, FM, IFC).Basic understanding of fire protection systems and fire dynamics3–7 years of experience in fire protection and life safety systems OSHA 30 Certification is preferred. Will be required within 12 months of hire. Attention to detail and commitment to safety compliance

Pass a background check.

Pass a medical evaluation to include drug testing and TB test.

Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees, clients, assigned facility/plant employees and contractors, neighboring emergency service agencies, North Star EMS/North Star Industrial EMS and Fire (North Star) management, and the general public.
