Summary / ObjectivesThe Universal Banker is the single point of contact for South State customers, operating as both a Teller and a Financial Services Representative (FSR). This role attracts, expands, and retains customer relationships while contributing to the bank’s financial growth.

- Serves customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to the South State Bank Service Standards.
- Knows and understands the bank’s products and services: facts, features, benefits, rules, regulations, and pricing.
- Identifies customer needs by listening for clues and seeks opportunities to expand relationships through referrals.
- Maintains a neat and professional personal appearance, in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensures compliance with all banking regulations, including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Develops strong customer‑facing technology knowledge and can discuss and enroll customers in self‑service options.
- Teller duties:
- Processes transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
- Assists in guiding and training new tellers.
- Allows customers access to safe‑deposit boxes.
- Cashes checks and processes savings withdrawals within assigned limits.
- Sells certified checks.
- Balances transactions daily.
- Services/balances ATMs.
- Utilizes the branch capture system.
- Follows policies and procedures to minimize operational errors.
- Observes security and audit procedures.
- FSR duties:
- Opens new deposit accounts; handles stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within limits.
- Explains policies and procedures to customers.
- Resolves customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion, directing difficult cases to appropriate assistance.
- Sees problems as opportunities to satisfy and upsell services.
- Shares appreciation of each customer’s time and business, issue business card if needed.
- Adheres to security and audit procedures.
- Ensures branch records and reports are correct, timely, and properly distributed.
- One year of teller or cash‑handling experience and six months of customer relationship building or sales experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
- Additional responsibilities may include Vault or Backup Vault duties.
- Other duties are assigned as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Cash handling, sales, and customer service experience; prior banking experience preferred.
- Good interpersonal and computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

- Banker Foundations.
- All assigned Regulatory Compliance Training.
- Acknowledgement of all policies through Docu Sign as assigned.
- Additional training may be required based on experience.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods.
- Ability to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations.
This position is most likely in an open lobby area with an individual workstation, located inside a climate‑controlled facility.
TravelTravel may be required for meetings or training as needed.
