Research Specialist I
Position in the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina.
Position SummaryThe Porcu Lab is currently seeking a dynamic, organized, and committed animal-focused Research Specialist to maintain mouse colony and lab supplies in support of multiple research projects in the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences (DDBS) at the College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina (UofSC). The Porcu Lab is interested in studying the role of neurotransmitter plasticity and circadian rhythms in modulating brain functions and behaviors.
We use a combination of state-of-the-art methodologies from behavior to in vivo calcium imaging to circadian genes analysis in pre‑clinical mouse models. Our goal is to understand the mechanism by which neurotransmitter plasticity and circadian rhythms regulate neuronal circuits and brain functions to reveal promising targets for future treatments of mental disorders.
- Bachelor or master’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or related fields.
- Previous research experience.
- Ability to work with animals.
- Demonstrated ability to follow general lab practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and spreadsheet software skills.
- Willingness to be trained and to take on additional responsibilities with animal work and general lab maintenance.
Salary: $18-20 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (flexible schedule as needed).
