Position Summary

The McCausland College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for the Peter and Bonnie McCausland Distinguished Chair in Neuroscience. This 9‑month, tenured position will begin on August 16, 2026. The Chair will develop a research program in neurodegenerative disorders, stroke, and neurodevelopmental disorders, working with the Brain Health Center, McCausland Brain Imaging Center, Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment Center, Smart State Centers for Neurotherapeutics and Childhood Neurotherapeutics, the School of Medicine, Arnold School of Public Health, College of Pharmacy, and Molinari College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a research program in or closely complementing the university’s strengths in neurodegenerative disorders, stroke, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Recruit and build a neuroscience research group, leveraging startup funding.
  • Develop collaborations within the University’s research centers and Colleges.
  • Apply genetic, biochemical, cellular, medical imaging, or systems‑level neuroscience approaches to understand, diagnose, and treat neurological disorders.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.D. with validated expertise in the neurosciences.
  • Eligible for appointment at the Professor level per University policy (ACAF 1.06).
  • Demonstrated research productivity with a track record of extramural funding and high‑impact publications.
