Serves as the Behavioral Health Care Facilitator/Coordinator for the Integrated Behavioral Health System of Care Program. Acts as a liaison to coordinate mental health services for all members of the South Carolina National Guard, their families, and state employees. Coordinates treatment for service members through community partnerships and supports behavioral health functions during pre and post-deployment Yellow Ribbon events. Assists with various Guard-sponsored mental health initiatives, including the Peer Team, COMPASS, and the Wellness Interdisciplinary Team (WIT).
Handles on-call duties on a rotating basis for the 866 Behavioral Health Care Support Line and coordinates behavioral health plans of care with behavioral health specialists across the state within their respective coverage regions. Performs other functions as directed by the Director of Service Member Family Care (J9). Serves as backup to Mental Health III in providing CISM services using the peer support model.
A master’s degree in social work, counseling, social sciences or a related field and professional experience in a mental health, human service or social service program.
A master’s degree in social work or counseling with four (4) years of experience working with DoD service members and a strong background supporting the military population, including deployment, reintegration, traumatic brain injury, PTSD/combat stress, and trauma recovery. Candidates should also hold an independent clinical license, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal privacy laws and maintain an active HIPPA certification. Must work collaboratively with multiple disciplines including MED Command, The Chaplain Corps, Family Programs, and other service groups within the Guard. Must be able to provide mental health consultation and assist in developing plan of care, including appropriate clinical interventions as needed for service members. May be required to work extended hours to support mental health care coordination, including during emergencies, disasters, or other mission-related needs.
Overnight and extended stays may be necessary to support ongoing operations and ensure soldier readiness. May be requested to represent behavioral health services during Yellow Ribbon events, community mental health activities, and off-site meetings, and to participate in drill weekends at the request of command to provide unit briefings and any additional behavioral health support as needed.
