Sr. Network Engineer
Salary range: $61,320 – $122,640 USD per year.
DescriptionDesign, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructures for multiple clients in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment. The engineer handles advanced troubleshooting, performance optimization, high availability of network services, and acts as escalation point for the NOC team, collaborating with clients to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable network solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Network Design & Implementation
- Architect and deploy LAN/WAN, SD‑WAN, VPN, and wireless solutions for client environments.
- Configure and optimize routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Monitoring & Maintenance
- Oversee network monitoring tools (Datto, Logic Monitor, PRTG) to ensure uptime and performance.
- Perform proactive maintenance and capacity planning.
- Troubleshooting & Escalation
- Act as Tier 3 escalation for complex network issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
- Change Management & ITIL Compliance
- Follow ITIL‑aligned processes for Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
- Prepare and submit detailed change requests, including risk assessments, rollback plans, and impact analysis.
- Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings and ensure all changes are documented and approved before implementation.
- Security & Compliance
- Implement network security best practices, including firewall policies, IDS/IPS, and VLAN segmentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (PCI‑DSS, HIPAA).
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, SOPs, and change logs.
- Provide regular performance and incident reports to management and clients.
- Client Interaction
- Collaborate with clients on network strategy, upgrades, and migrations.
- Participate in technical meetings and provide consultative guidance.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 5 years in network engineering roles, preferably in MSP or NOC environments. Hands‑on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or similar platforms.
- Certifications: CCNP or equivalent required; CCIE, JNCIP, or similar preferred. ITIL Foundation certification strongly preferred.
- Technical
Skills:
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, QoS. Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and SD‑WAN technologies. - Soft Skills: Excellent communication and client‑facing skills. Ability to mentor junior engineers and work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with scripting/automation (Python, Ansible).
- Exposure to virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V) and storage networking.
- 24/7 NOC operations; may require on‑call rotation.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
