This position is in the Operations - Strategic Communications Unit at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, South Carolina.
Responsibilities Of The Public Information Director II- Plans and executes the agency's communications initiatives. Develops and disseminates news releases, articles, and other materials for release to the media and the general public; serves as the media contact and maintains contact with media to disseminate informational materials for public interest or as required. Trains those employees authorized to speak to the media.
- Executes advertising/public awareness campaigns and manages associated budgets. Serves as the media FOIA POC and responds to inquiries originating through social media platforms. Works closely with Legislative Affairs and ensures third-party stakeholders receive timely updates on agency changes. Understands details of the agency's scope and business to be able to accurately articulate them when necessary. Studies agency policies, procedures, and business process and adjusts team's scope as needed to align with agency changes.
- Serves as universal publisher and administrator of the agency's website. Maintains and coordinators those with access. Coordinates and executes annual audit of website. Has extreme knowledge of website content manager system, website structure, and website relationships. Updates website as needed.
- Oversees all aspects of agency community services projects yet may not be the direct executor.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree and relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted with prior approval.
Additional Requirements- Capacity to independently gain knowledge of agency programs. Ability to gather, organize, and present oral and written information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner. Knowledge of journalistic principles, practices, and techniques of disseminating information. Proficient in current social media and use as a business enhancing capability. Ability to plan, compose, edit, and produce publications and large-scale public relations programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with media.
Skilled in fulfilling FOIA requests. Skilled in managing diverse teams and constantly looking for efficiencies. - Reports to the Deputy Director of the directorate. Employee takes and shows strong initiative while exercising sound judgement and discretion to include detailed decision making. Professional level involving complex programs, projects, and communications. Works closely with agency management by recommending programs, completing assessments, and providing feedback to management.
- Normal work week will consist of 37.5 hours. Some extended hours may be required to meet job requirements, works in a climate-controlled office setting. Considered an essential employee and will be required to work during otherwise scheduled office closures due to severe weather or other situations impacting the state.
A bachelor's degree and at least two years’ experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material.
