Summary/

Purpose:

Plans, directs, and coordinates technical support for the manufacturing process.

• Develops and evaluates manufacturing methods.
• Uses a hands-on approach to develop and implement solutions to manufacturing problems and improvements in manufacturing methods that result in improved quality and increased productivity while maintaining a safe working environment.
• Analyzes and troubleshoots production equipment based on technical drawings and mechanical evaluation.
• Provides training to Operators, Setup Persons, Manufacturing Technicians, and Manufacturing Engineering Technicians to improve technical abilities.
• Interfaces with all levels in the organization using verbal, written, and graphical communication tools to ensure efficient production methods.
• Designs and documents tooling designs on drawings that communicate tooling requirements to toolmakers using AD software, or manual charted drawings.
• Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow, and layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
• Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
• Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
• Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
• Collaborate with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
• Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential, including machine capability studies.
• Plan, implement, and track capital and non-capital cost reduction projects and report to management on a regular basis.
• Support 5-S, Kaizen Team and Koyo Production Systems, TS16949 and ISO
  14000 efforts throughout the plant.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

• Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years’ experience in engineering position preferred.
• Bearings experience preferred.

• Work is predominantly in the manufacturing setting (approx. 75%) and in the office setting (approx. 25%), with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards and substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
• Exposure to manufacturing areas requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes, and mandatory hearing protection.
