Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Industrial Maintenance
The Hazmat Technician is responsible for handling, transporting, and disposing of hazardous materials while ensuring safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Emergency Response – React to hazardous material spills, leaks, and contamination incidents.
- Cleanup & Disposal – Safely remove and dispose of hazardous substances following regulatory standards.
- Equipment Operation – Use specialized tools such as protective suits and respirators.
- Training & Compliance – Educate personnel on safety procedures and maintain adherence to OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
- Record Keeping – Document hazardous material incidents and response efforts.
- Handling and inventory – Receive and identify material; locate, retrieve, load, and unload using hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment; tally types and quantities against receiving and shipping documents; operate heavy equipment such as forklift.
- Adherence to Hazardous Material/Waste Management Plan under direction of EHS Manager/Hazmat Coordinator.
- HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) 40‑hour training (a plus).
- Knowledge of hazardous material handling, containment, and disposal.
- Strong problem‑solving and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to work in emergency conditions wearing protective gear.
- High school diploma with 2–5 years of relevant field experience (or equivalent).
- General supervision under a supervisor or manager.
