Job Description
The Climbing Wall Attendant is responsible for assisting the Recreation Supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the Climbing Wall and ensuring safe climbing and belaying.
Essential Functions- Monitors participants climbing activity to ensure safety policies are being adhered to.
- Teaches and models appropriate safety practices and techniques to customers.
- Provides a welcoming and customer service-oriented environment for staff and participants.
- Follows all established opening, on-shift and closing policies and procedures.
- Provides participants with information about climbing wall programs and routes.
- Assists individuals with climbing equipment and offers users advice on how to improve their climbing skills and techniques.
- Conducts daily inspections of the climbing wall, surrounding area and equipment; maintains climbing equipment and wall.
- Sets up and takes down climbing wall anchor systems in the correct manner; sets climbing routes.
- Supervises non-climbers to ensure their safety around the climbing wall.
- Helps maintain a clean and safe environment within the climbing wall area and storage room.
- Assists with hosting group climbing events.
- Assists with auto-belay features as necessary.
- Facilitates instructional belay/climbing classes.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Climbing and belaying experience preferred.
- Awareness of safety concerns and risk management involved with climbing.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Be current in, or ability to pass upon hire, CPR / AED / First Aid certification course.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 30 lb. objects regularly.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
