Our client is a well-established manufacturer of products for the electrical power grid. This role is critical to ensuring materials, processes, and finished products consistently meet customer requirements, engineering drawings, specifications, and company quality standards.
Whatyou'll do
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of Quality Technicians/Inspectors
- Review quality issues, scrap, rework, and rejection data at the start and end of each shift
- Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor, monitoring fabrication, welding, assembly, and powder coating processes for compliance
- Verify operators use correct drawings, revisions, and work instructions
- Verify first-piece inspections are completed before production quantities are released
- Monitor in-process inspections and ensure results are properly documented
- Inspect welded assemblies for compliance with drawings, specifications, dimensions, and workmanship; identify defects such as undercut, porosity, spatter, cracks, or improper placement
- Monitor cutting, punching, forming, drilling, bending, and machining operations, verifying dimensions and tolerances
- Inspect powder coating for coverage, color, gloss, film thickness, adhesion, surface preparation, and defects such as runs, orange peel, pinholes, blisters, or contamination
- Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material; determine disposition (rework, use as-is, return, or scrap)
- Investigate recurring quality problems and track corrective actions to completion
- Ensure inspection reports, first-piece documentation, and calibration records are complete and accurate
- Monitor calibration status of gauges and measuring equipment
- Participate in daily production meetings and communicate quality concerns to Production Supervisors and Management
- Assist with customer complaint investigations, supplier quality issues, and Supplier Corrective Action Requests
- Direct daily activities of Quality Technicians and Inspectors, including training, coaching, and performance monitoring
- Maintain authority to place material on quality hold, stop production for significant quality risks, and prevent shipment of nonconforming product absent an approved deviation
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and other quality tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field preferred
- Experience in the aluminum manufacturing industry
- Certification in quality management or auditing (e.g., Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Manager)
This role offers the chance to lead quality operations on the manufacturing floor, directly shaping defect prevention, process improvement, and product quality for a well-established manufacturer experiencing growth.
