Post Doctoral Fellow

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the CARES Center, which focuses on Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment among Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) populations. The Fellow will play an integral role in research to improve patient‑centered SUD care by actively engaging patients in the co‑development of scientific research and policy recommendations.

The fellowship will provide training in mixed‑methods research, qualitative analysis, the science of patient engagement in research, and patient‑centered outcomes research. Key responsibilities include designing and managing research projects, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, and preparing research manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals. Additionally, the Fellow will collaborate on grant writing and develop independent research initiatives in patient engagement research. The fellow will have opportunities to present at academic conferences and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across institutions.

Eligibility & Experience

  • PhD/DrPH/ScD in Public Health, Health Services Research, Health Policy, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field by the start date (ABD applicants are welcome).
  • Background in qualitative and mixed‑methods research encouraged.
  • Experience researching health disparities, marginalized communities, and/or SUD encouraged.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in the area of research specialty.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in mixed‑methods research design and data analysis.
  • Expertise in patient‑centered research and community engagement methodologies.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in qualitative research and data analysis, including familiarity with NVivo.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including Discrete Choice Experiments (DCE) and familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., SAS, STATA).
  • A track record of or evident potential for publications in peer‑reviewed journals.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the MPIs, lead or assist in the design and implementation of qualitative and quantitative studies within the PRIDE‑CARES project to evaluate SGM patient experiences and preferences in SUD treatment services. (40%)
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data, using software such as NVivo and SAS or STATA, to identify themes and patterns related to SGM patient experiences with SUD treatment. (30%)
  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer‑reviewed journals and collaborate with faculty on writing grant proposals for external funding. (20%)
  • Participate in training opportunities, professional development, and present research findings at academic conferences. (10%)
