Location: Cleveland
Camp Greenville Lifeguard (Summer 2026) – YMCA of Greenville
Join a team committed to creating a safe, engaging waterfront environment for campers. The Lifeguard role involves communicating and enforcing aquatics rules, working with the Waterfront Coordinator and Paddle Sports Coordinator, and supporting counselors in their duties.
Responsibilities- Communicates and enforces aquatics rules and guidelines to ensure a safe waterfront environment.
- Properly opens, performs daily tasks, and closes the aquatics area each day according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provides excellent service to campers.
- Works with participants of all backgrounds.
- Maintains a clean, safe, fully stocked, and well-organized work area.
- Handles and resolves aquatics concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Works without constant direct supervision and remains at the assigned post for extended periods of time.
- Maintains a positive attitude and contributes toward a quality work environment.
- Supervises campers and staff at the waterfront during swim tests, free swim, canoeing, and kayaking.
- Supports cabin leader staff when not in the program area and fills in for cabin leaders at times.
- Serves as a role model, upholding camp values, and working with integrity, creativity, and safety in mind at all times.
- Is responsible for the health and well-being of the campers mentally, emotionally, and physically during their time at camp.
- Approaches responsibilities in a fun, creative, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high‑risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job‑specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Current lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification (American Red Cross or YMCA) – required and must be obtained prior to June 2026. Position is contingent on certification.
- Must be 18 years old by June 2026.
- Ability to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to all campers and staff.
- Ability to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
- Enthusiasm and excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills with peers and campers.
- Experience guarding in a waterfront setting.
- Experience working in a team setting.
