This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. A Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swim classes.

EssentialFunctions
- Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, preparing lesson plans and supporting members and program participants in achieving their goals.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members, program participants, and colleagues at all levels; help participants and families connect and encourage parent or caregiver involvement.
- Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and refer program participants and families to other programs as appropriate; maintain required records (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Organize, prepare, and store required class equipment, report damaged equipment, train and supervise class aides, and perform all other duties as assigned.
- MCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent. CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
- Complete all assigned Redwoods trainings (CAP, BBP, etc.). Child Abuse Prevention: support the YMCA’s commitment by reporting hazards, following child‑safety policies, reporting suspicious behavior, and completing all required trainings.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- At least 16 years of age.
- Physical demands: able to lift equipment and a small to average size child. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
