Position Purpose

This position is responsible for supervising and developing all drivers for assigned accounts; addressing customer service issues or complaints; and ensuring all shipments meet customer needs and demands. The supervisor provides solutions for daily problem resolution, improving customer satisfaction, retention, utilization, and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Promote safety metrics and key performance indicators such as service pickup %, deadhead %, and assignments per week.
  • Supervise driver performance to balance business and driver needs.
  • Use high‑performance coaching to coach drivers on performance or behavioral expectations.
  • Maintain high service levels for U.S. Xpress customers through strong relationships and proactive communication.
  • Maximize company profitability through appropriate equipment utilization.
  • Ensure win/win scenarios that result in high driver and customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Handle sensitive issues, difficult conversations, and driver disputes with effective communication.
  • Plan driver loads based on availability (PTA) and ensure drivers and equipment perform as required for on‑time service.
  • Coordinate driver physicals, random drug screens, and CDL renewal deadlines via Safety Department tracking.
  • Utilize systems such as AS400 and XPM to maximize productivity.
  • Collaborate with operational and support departments on various tasks.
  • Perform yard duties as assigned.
  • Assist others in achieving organizational objectives.
  • Build credibility and trust through prompt feedback and positive reinforcement.
What We’re Looking For Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Equivalent years of experience: one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.
Experience
  • 3+ years of operations experience including customer service, fleet management, or load planning preferred.
  • Background in transportation, logistics, and/or supervisory roles is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
  • Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change.
  • Works quickly and efficiently, able to test solutions, learn, and iterate.
  • Proactive and pragmatic problem solver.
  • Effective communication across multiple mediums.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of DOT regulations impacting daily operations preferred.
