West Virginia University Health System (SMG) seeks a Physician-Orthopaedic Medical Optimization. The successful candidate will be expected to practice in South Charleston, WV and Charleston, WV, at Thomas Hospitals;
Thomas Memorial Hospital and Thomas Orthopedic Hospital, and provide medical optimization services for orthopaedic patients within WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals.
Qualifications:
Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidates must have completed an internal medicine or primary care residency program. Successful candidates must have board certified / eligible in internal medicine or family medicine. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
- Provide outpatient pre-operative medical risk assessments and optimization for patients scheduled for orthopaedic surgery.
- Collaborate with orthopaedic surgeons, anesthesia, and consulting services to ensure appropriate surgical readiness.
- Participate in selective inpatient peri-operative medical management as needed.
- Contribute to the continued growth and refinement of the Orthopaedic Medical Optimization Program.
- Provide clinical teaching to medical students and residents, contributing to the academic mission of WVU.
- Engage in clinical research and quality improvement efforts, with institutional support available.
- Utilize EPIC for all clinical documentation and care coordination.
