Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care with support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Must possess current or temporary radiography license as required by state board where services are provided: MD – Radiographer License via Maryland Board of Physicians; OH – Radiographer License via Ohio Department of Health; PA – No state licensure required; WV – Radiography license or temporary license via West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
  • Must be nationally certified as defined by location where services are provided: MD – Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT upon hire; OH – Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT upon hire; PA – Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 12 months of hire; WV – Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 6 months of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
  • CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  • Performs image procedures based on assessment of patient status, service request, and imaging protocols.
  • Produces images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving.
  • Selects exposure factors based on patient's size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and other staff by using shielding, collimation, application of the inverse square law, and minimizing repeat exposures.
  • Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
  • Assesses patient's needs and provides imaging related comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support accordingly.
  • Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  • Promotes team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout hospital to promote efficient, high quality, and cost effective patient care.
  • Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Completes all in-services and competencies by required date and applies knowledge gained.
  • Positions patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participates in coordination of daily workflow.
  • Provides minimal instruction of radiology students in clinical setting regarding patient positioning, technique selection, manipulation of equipment and use of accessory devices to obtain Radiographic images; provides clinical supervision within the policies of the Radiology program and accrediting bodies.
  • Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
  • Medical assisting duties as assigned.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Differentiate various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
